The Amazing Healing Benefits of Blackstrap Molasses for Endometriosis

I wasn’t really that sold on Blackstrap Molasses. To be honest it reminded me of a time my mom tried to get me to take it because she said it was really good for me! It tasted nasty and that is the only memory I ever had of it and to be honest I didn’t want to know anymore. Granted, I was only 7 years old, so perhaps I didn’t appreciate those things can be prepared in different ways to make them taste good!

A few days ago one of my subscribers asked me to write an article on it, so I kind of felt compelled to read more about it and find ways to actually make it taste good. Well, only once I was genuinely convinced of the benefits.

Well, what I discovered was quite amazing. Blackstrap Molasses is definitely an amazing food that we should incorporate into our daily routine! Don’t worry, I will show you how, shortly.ย Let’s learn more about what it can do first!

Here is what it contains:

  • Iron: it contains more iron in less calories than meat. Now, if we are having periods and losing lots of blood, then chances are we are deficient in iron.
  • Calcium: huge amounts of calcium which binds to remove toxins from within the colon and naturally build strong bones and teeth. It also helps with enzyme activity.
  • Copper: Gets rid of free radicals in the body and also forms melanin which helps our skin and hair. There are claims it can make grey hair return to its natural colour!
  • Manganese: produces sex hormones
  • Magnesium: it is natural to be low on this one. Too little and we get cramps, soreness, tension and more stiffness in the body.
  • Selenium: read this article on its importance in preventing Endometriosis
  • B6: helps to reduce stress
Now, all sorts of interesting claims have been made on Blackstrap Molasses, cures of all things! Acne, yeast Infections, fibroid tumours and anemia are just a few;ย check out this long list of claims…WOW! Who would have thought?
So, how do we get that stuff into our bodies? Now, when you first smell it, you are probably not going to jump right in there and want to slurp this stuff up – I certainly didn’t. Well, I had to experiment and find a way to drink it โ€“ frequently and pleasurably!
Here’s the recipe ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Make some milk using Almonds. Soak the almonds in water for at least 2hrs or until they swell. Rinse them well in fresh water. Put them in a blender with some warm/hot milk and blend.
  • Add some cinnamon
  • Add some ginger powder (about 1teaspoon)
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 raw egg – makes it foamy
  • handful of ice (if you want a cold version)
If you prefer a hot version, leave out the ice and put it on the stove after you’ve blended everything together well. Heat up on low heat and remove once warm. It foams up nicely and looks just like a lattรฉ!ย It does need to be sieved to get the nut skin and harder nut bits out.ย It actually tastes really, really yummy! I couldn’t believe it. I had it after dinner and it made me feel all warm and delicious inside my tummy.
Now, I figured there are probably other recipes out there to try but to me, this way I know I will have it most days and get all those super nutrients in me at the same time!
Have you experimented with Blackstrap Molasses? Feel free to share any recipe ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

Girls, I was diagnosed with endometriosis and fibroids about 5 years ago(at the age of 42). I didnโ€™t want any hormonal treatment or surgery so I did a lot of research and found that a teaspoon of BSM with a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar in a glass of water(room temperature or slightly warm) works to get rid of them.I have been using this remedy ever since and have got rid of my endometriosis as well as fibroids. No more of those terrible cramps and pelvic pain during period. Just hope someone benefits from my experience. I was skeptical at first as well but it has worked like magic. Please do try this out for at least 3 months and I can promise u that u will see a huge change.

Could you recommend foods and drinks that are both endo and interstitial cystisis ?

  3. Lara ahmed

Simply mixing it with tahini is the best way to go.

  4. Melissa

It can but you need to go deeper than this. This is a hormone-based issue – too much oestrogen. We have a free hormone series running at the moment. Recommend you sign up for it http://www.endoempowered.com/unfunk

Hi..I am 45 and I have missed periods..had a scan and found out the walls of my womb is thinkenig …I am having 2tables spoon of mollasas and 2teaspon of apple cider vinegar to thin it..I believe that will help..will it.

  6. robbie

I’m sorry but chemistry doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t matter if you diluite it,it doesn’t anything

  7. judy

In your recipe above, I don’t see Black Strap Molasses listed as an ingredient. Did you forget to add that?

  8. Veneta

I take a tablespoon day for the health benefits. I eat it raw as i believe adding water or juices dilutes the nutritional benefits. I know taking it raw is not appealing to everyone’s taste, but i feel it works better for me this way.

    Hi,
I’m currently 18 years old and I suffer from extreme cramps especially the moment right when my period starts. I have tried blackstrap molasses for a few days and took a break and waited for my next period. It was less painful than usual. My question is: how often should I consume bbal strap molasses in order for my cramps to disappear completely? Should I consume some everyday? ( I usually put a teaspoon in hot tea)

    Try castor oil

Thandi I feel for u my sister. I had my first child at the age of 33 and before that I had two miscarriages. Don’t give up my dear, you are still young if you believe in your heart that you will have a child GOD’S willing. We have been conditioned that when women reach certain age they can’t have a child. stay healthy, think positive, prayers, gratitude .

Hi there! I’d really suggest you go on a gluten free diet. Almost all the women in my famiy had endometriosis / fibroids in the uterus and they adopted a gluten free diet and cut out sugar as much as they could, and I have to say, it’s bee working for years! Beautiful, healthy kids, no IVF etc needed!

  13. Melissa

    Hi Thandi,
I would really look at your sugar and iodine intake. I am excited that you have made so many changes already ๐Ÿ™‚ Just keep going. Food is incredibly healing.

  14. Thandi

    Good day.
I am a 33 year old woman who happen to be a victim of fibroids.I would love to have my own kids but chances are slim.So many product i have try’ with no improvement, juicing, natural medication, hemp oil,all these home remendies. Is there any hope that black strap molasses can help me shrink these monsters.

    Best regards
    Thandi Mtungwa

  15. Roberta

I am weird too:) That’s Exactly how I prefer taking Blackstrap Molasses:)
It’s so good to hear all the benefits y’all have posted as I am craving it again as I have
in the past from time to time. This time, at 45 years of age, I will make it a daily regimen and see what happens to me!

  16. Roberta

It’s refreshing to see that my reoccurring craving for Blackstrap Molasses is for a reason!! I am 45years old and have had irritable bowel, lethargy, “menstrual cramps”
(even though I had a partial hysterectomy at 41-I still have my ovaries and tubes), and body aches (undiagnosed fibromyalgia?) increasingly for the past 8 weeks. My body is telling me it needs the gifts of
Blackstrap… I eat it by the tablespoonfuls all by itself, like candy. So rich and yummy!
It helps me to hear all these testimonies. I have craved it in the past but have eaten it only occasionally as a treat. Now I will try a complete regimen of it daily to see any of the benefits others have reported. Thanks for sharing

  17. Melissa

It kinda depends on taste but I would go with a small amount first – like a teaspoon and then work yourself up to more. I found a teaspoon is plenty ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. jamie

I didn’t see in the top latte recipe where it says how much molasses to use?

  19. Kesh

YES! Blackstrap Molasses is a gift from the Goddess! At 40 I was diagnosed with Post Menopause and Fibromyalgia and occasional breast cysts. I religiously take 2 teaspoons daily (I prefer adding to a cup of hot water like tea) But …….. you can be creative and add to health/protein shakes, smoothies whatever you like. Whatever method you use just do something please. You will be amazed it is one year later and at 41 i feel as good as I did at 16. I could go on and on – needless to say post menopause, fibromyalgia and breast cysts are no more!!! Who would had ever thought something under 10 bucks could have such a huge POSITIVE LIFE changing affect.

  20. Ntombenhle

Iam willing to start using it

    Hi Melissa,

Just wanted to quickly mention that vitamin K is actually responsible for increasing the clotting the blood, i.e. ensuring that the blood is not too “thin”. If the blood is too thin, we can bruise more easily, or bleed more from injuries. So this is a good thing – however, you need to monitor the intake of foods rich in vitamin K while on blood-thinning medication, as vitamin K reverses the blood-thinning effect.

Besides the foods that you mentioned, also all herbs (cilantro, dill, etc etc – especially thyme and basil) are very high in vitamin K (and yummy to boot!). I believe natural nattokinasse is high in vitamin K, but I think that with the supplements they actually usually subtract the vitamin K (I guess as it’d reverse the useful blood-thinning properties of it).

I’ve discovered that natural substances that make the blood thinner include ginger, turmeric, and omega-3-rich foods. Also NSAID painkillers like aspirin and ibuprofen increase the blood thinness (though the process is different).

    Cheers!

Not too much. Maybe a drink per day or so ๐Ÿ™‚ There are more ways to help the thyroid. Perhaps also look at seaweeds as an alternative.

  23. sharon

Hw much bsm are you taking?I would love to help my thyriod along ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Melissa

BSM stands for Black Strap Molasses ๐Ÿ™‚
I would only take a drop a day. But you can also get iodine from seaweeds – you can eat those ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. shaz

What does BSM stand for I have some problems with my thyroid too. How does one know how much iodine to take? thank you.

  26. BT

so ive had ecruciating pain since my first period. its been 11 years and nothing has worked. I am tired of taking birth control pills because of the weight gain and the fact that they havent really helped (theyve alleviated the pain but its still there!). To top recently lost my health insurance so Iooking for a natural remedy to endometriosis/uterine fibroids ( I say both because stupid doctors cant figure out what I have. Ultrasound shows nothinig and I dont want to have surgery or get an IUD). I believe I have uterine fibroids because of family history and the only thing I could find online for a cure for fibriods is blackstrap molasses and tea w/ herbs. I am not overweight and exercing and eating right just doesnt work for some people. I hope this wrks and ill update you when I start to take it

  27. Melissa

Hi Silvana and thanks for sharing your story ๐Ÿ™‚ Iodine is a great remedy for an underactive thyroid! What does BSM stand for? Congrats and well done for researching and listening to yourself ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Silvana

    Hello everyone,

I want to say that taking this hot is not recommended. Blackstrap Molasses needs to be consumed at room temperature or cold, but not in a hot beverage. The benefits will not be the same. I think it depends if you have severe issues you are trying to fix.

I use it myself, as I was misdiagnosed by my doctor 6 months ago. I was told I was POST MENAPAUSE, at 40 I was pretty upset about it, but it was something I was going to deal with. So then I decide to look into getting tested for thyroid since I have had my period REGULARLY for the past 4 months. Sure enough, I told my doctor 6 months ago I might have a thyroid problem, and I do. I have had SEVERE hair loss, gained 20 lbs in 4 months, and dry, very dry pale skin, I was tired, really tired all the time. I am only 40, I had to do something. I am now taking BSM and Iodine (that is what my body needed to adjust my thyroid, I am not giving advice) I cannot believe this cheap, natural remedy is actually working, when I was told there is nothing I could do about my symptoms. I am feeling better, less and less hair loss and I hope my next test shows my thyroid at normal function. For the weight loss, I am doing nothing extra, by adjusting my thyroid, it should be pretty easy to get rid of the extra weight. My doctor told me to exercise more and prescribed Phentermine, a drug to help me lose the 20 lbs. Horrible advice, I am so happy I decided to look into it and not allow my thyroid to get even worse. I hope this helps someone, I know I appreciate everyone’s comments. Thanks.

Hi Haley. I personally only use about a teaspoon but it is up to taste. I personally don’t really like the taste so tend to disguise it. Some girls love it – so experiment and see what you like ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Haley

The recipe for this drink seems delicious! But you didn’t note how much molasses to put in. So what’s a good amount?

  31. Melissa

No probs Tani! It is only useful if we know what to do with it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  32. Tani

Wow- yet again another great article. Melissa, your blog is so useful, not only do you describe what could be helpful to us endo girls but you encourage ideas on how to incorporate these ideas in everyday life. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. Melissa

Wow! You are weird! Ha ha! It is great for our health – I tried it on my Quinoa this morning and it was nasty – couldn’t finish it! Love some other ideas where I can hide the taste abit more! Banana smoothy seemed to work a little better ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. Jess

Personally, I’ve always loved the taste, but apparently I’m weird. I remember eating spoonfuls even as a kid… and I never had to fight anyone for the stuff ๐Ÿ˜›
I eat it still but this is a good reminder to do it more often, I think I’m going to add it to my nightly rotation. I like just a spoonful stirred into a cup of hot water – like tea!

  35. Melissa

Thanks for the extra tips! I am loving my evening drink! Just yum! ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. Louisa

    Hey,

Its really really great to hear the actual scientific benefits of Molasses. I have used it in cooking as a replacement for sugar as it is less refined. Its really great in flapjacks instead of syrup or treacle (with a banana or a dash of Agave to sweeten). I also use a teaspoon to add flavor to tomato based, veggie, savory dishes like chilli or spaghetti Bolognaise.

Will try squeezing it into more dishes now!

    x
