The Blood Group diet looks at our genetic and connection to specific diseases and conditions we have to blood type. The book explains how certain foods act as beneficial to our blood type and others aggravate it and make us more prone to diseases. He claims that eating the wrong foods for certain blood groups would weaken the whole system and thereby make us open to more diseases.

Now, I had read the book some time ago and followed the diet for a few months and found it was definitely beneficial. One could however argue that the diet suggested for my blood group (type A) would have beneficial to anyone with Endometriosis. It eliminates all meats, bread, white flour and dairy – which is pretty much what we are recommended to do anyway. The funny thing is though when I look at the diet again now, having unpacked it from our “box of books” there are some strange correlations which do make sense and make me question whether there could be more truth to this diet.
One of the foods which are recommended on the “Avoid” list are tomatoes, aubergines, oranges and red peppers/capsicum. Now, I have always found these hard to eat or that I have had some reaction to them. My stomach burns when I eat oranges and red pepper and my whole digestive system aches when I eat tomatoes. I have also noticed the burning tummy thing when I have vinegar which is another one Dr Adamo suggests avoiding.
So, I guess one could say there might be some truth to this diet, perhaps if you are a type A blood type – like me. The thing is though, does that mean all women with Endometriosis are type A’s? Probably not.
The book claims that Type A blood group are more prone to immune system type diseases and poor liver and stomach function type of diseases. It says that we struggle with stress easily and tend to develop immune disorders when we get overly stressed. It suggests Yoga and Tai Chi as our best bet for reducing our stress (kinda ironic since I tend to lean towards these)
Now, the theory ads up for me as I happen to be a Blood Group A. What blood group are you and what are your thoughts on it? Do you think there could be some merit in it or do you think it is just strange co-incidence?
