The 4 Things Endometriosis Pain Teaches Me

I had quite a rough day on Sunday. It was the first time in 6 months that I have had such bad period pain and I just felt awful. Luckily, I knew the cause of it all, so that prevented me from going into complete panic mode!

I was at James’s parents house too, so that made it even more challenging as I couldn’t go through my usual carefully laid out plan for period pain. I had no hot water bottles, no castor oil and only had a few supplements, which I could transport with me. My usual routine for this is so well planned that by the time I figure out I am going to have a bad period, I have already taken every preventative to avoid it getting completely agonizing. No such luck this time. It was nasty! I struggled to do anything and yet I had to put on a brave face and act like everything was fine. This in itself was quite draining!

Anyway, today is Tuesday and the severity is all gone. I know it never used to be like this before. I would spend my entire monthly period in bed, curled up in agony.

The point I guess I wanted to make with this blog is that I know I have come a long way and I have certainly learnt a lot about how to reduce my pain BUT, and this is a big BUT, I no longer just want to manage the pain or reduce it. I want it to be gone. Permanently! I don’t want to experience it even for just one or two days a month. I don’t want to experience it EVER!

The more extreme the period pain is, the more motivation it gives me to get rid of it.

The past year has been a long learning curve. I have tried a number of different methods to try and heal this Endometriosis permanently. Naturally, I first started with my diet and obvious things like exercise and de-stressing, emotional healing, meditation, yoga etc, but I feel it is only now, a year later, that I can say I am almost being guided onto real sources of actual cures for Endometriosis. The stronger I believe I am going to find the answers to a real cure, the more the answers seem to present themselves. Like the universe is working with me to achieve that goal.

The body is truly amazing at healing itself and the amount of information out there is phenomenal. There are people everywhere who are using natural methods to cure a variety of conditions. The more people out there who are going against the mainstream medical system and finding real cures, using natural methods, the more we will find answers and solutions for our own healing. I am so happy we live in a time of the internet. I am not sure where I would be with my healing if it weren’t for the internet. It is such a wealth of information that it becomes possible for everyone to find real answers and not have to rely on only one source of information.

So, my Endometriosis pain teaches me a few things, but here are the 4 key ones:

  1. It signals to me that I need to keep searching for more answers
  2. It shows me that I need to refocus, slow down and appreciate what is really important to me, in this moment
  3. It allows me to appreciate those days when I am not in pain so much more
  4. It keeps me connected to everyone in the world that experiences pain. I can sympathize better and be there for you more when I still experience pain.

I love hearing from all of you about how my methods have helped you or how a simple suggestion has dramatically reduced your daily pain! It is great to know that these things can alleviate daily struggles with Endometriosis. I also know that for many of you, just experiencing pain two days a month seems like a dream. I know, as I used to experience daily pain too.

What I can tell you is the road does get easier. Initially it may seem like you will have to live with pain each and every day or you get pain “for no apparent reason.” I now know that my pain all relates directly to my diet, what I eat or drink and what is going on in my life. I also know that certain supplements are crucial to reducing pain and when I forget them, it flares up dramatically—I know not taking maca is the reason it was so bad this month, for instance!

What I haven’t figured out yet is how to move it up to that next level. The level where it is GONE.

I know that I will and I also know that the time for that real healing is very, very close. I can feel it.

I thank you all so much for your feedback, comments, support and love that you share with me. It is really special to me and it motivates me every day to keep searching so I can heal not just myself but more importantly ALL OF YOU!

Big hugs to you all 🙂

Hugs, Melissa x

The pain teaches me that instead of focusing on everything which is going around me, I need to focus on what I going within me. For example, when I have pain, I ask myself if it could come from something I ate, something I did, stress in my life, etc. and also if it could be non endo related. 😉
Asking myself as often as possible if I am doing everything for my body and my mind to be on the same “wavelength” is what keeps me going onto that healing path.
I know I still have endo, but it’s getting better. I am not 100% pain-free, but I do my best so that when the pain is back, I do all I can to get it under control, acknowledging it and thanking my body for all she does to protect me.
This pain teaches me more about myself and what is important to me.

    Hi Nadine,
I am sorry you are having a rough day. Try not to worry too much about everything today. Just look after yourself and be gentle. You can feel better. It all starts with your diet. Maybe download and read my book tonight – and yes, ask if you can go home. They should understand 🙂 Hugs to you and hope you feel better soon.

I was diagnosed with Endo a year or more back, I am 22. Does it it get worse the longer you have it?
I am having a rough day, and best of all is I am at work, cant concentrate, can barely move, its been a while since its been this bad, but maby it’s because my husband and I am trying for a baby without the operation, could that be?
How do I explain to my boss that i realy need to go home? I cant stand it, its realy killing me here!

Hi Joanna. Of course no-one minds. The private emails are really only for your own privacy 🙂 You may want to read an article I did on the symptoms of endo – just to make sure you do have it as there are a few different conditions that can cause abdominal pain. http://endoempowered.com/20-symptoms-of-endometriosis-could-you-have-the-condition-do-you-suffer-from-these-any-i-havent-mentioned/
Pain is actually a signal from your body to make some changes, so maybe you should take it as a blessing in disguise….I know that is kinda funny when you are screaming in agony! Try the following techniques: 1. Change your diet – cut out gluten and sugar first. Then dairy and meat. Do this slowly and aim to have them all out of your diet within the next 6months. 2. Get into Yoga or a meditative routine. This will help you calm down when the pain gets agonising. 3. Learn to massage the area with massage oils. 4. Walk or do some form of exercise daily. I know these may seem out of reach right now but adding them in gradually and working towards them will help you focus and improve your health. I hope that helps and keep reading, there is heaps of info here to help you 🙂

Hi! Thanks for your log and I am so glad I came across it as it has been a great help to read it. I have not been diagnosed with endometriosis but have most of the symptoms! I haven’t found a way of emailing you privately so I will have to ask you here. Hope no one minds. Do you have pain down there most of the time and gets worse some of the time? Does the pain stop you from doing things and do you have to come home and lye down and take painkillers? The pain is so bad that sometimes I wonder if there is a product that numbs the area down there as it is quite chronic. Do you know of anything? Thanks again. Hope you don’t mind me writing as I haven’t actually been diagnosed with endometriosis but I am suffering with some pain and other symptoms. Joanna x

    Hi Melissa,
I just want you to know that I feel very blessed to have found your blog when I did. Your blog has provided wonderful information that I have applied to my life such as the dietary changes, supplements, and the biggest one was the castor oil which has given me my sanity on the bad days which are starting to become fewer.:) Castor oil is AMAZING!!! One thing you said to me was why accept this as a part of your life, and I want to thank you for saying that. That has stuck with me. It finally gave me the drive to start taking control of my life again and not let endo have that.:) Now, I have the attitude and hope that one day I will be able to say I am endo free without having to have surgery. I know its going to take some time and hard work to get there, but I am determined to make that happen.:)

Thank you for taking the time to do the research and sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate it. You have made a difference in my life! 🙂 I just referred your website to one of my customers who I just found out has been suffering from endo for years. Hopefully, she will check it out. Hope your having a good pain free week!

    Hugs and Love,
    Julie

    Hi Melissa,

Hello from a fellow endo-sufferer. I am also suffering with endometriosis and have recently started looking for alternate remedies to help rather than go with surgery.

Very glad to have stumbled on your blog!
Am going to be glued to it to find out more about curing endo the natural way. I agree with all the four points you presented – I am in the same boat too. Endo actually makes me stop and say thanks for good days!
