My New Discovery…. Bicarbonate of Soda. Could This Cure Endometriosis?

My New Discovery…. Bicarbonate of Soda. Could This Cure Endometriosis?

I got this cool book from the library which is actually based on a British TV Series Grow your own Drugs. It is a fabulous show where James (the guy on the show) shows you how to make things to heal yourself using herbs and things you would find in your kitchen. Well, in this book we found a cool recipe for making bath bombs. I don’t know if you have ever made them but they are really fun! The whole chemical reaction of the bicarbonate of soda is just awesome!

Anyway, so we got talking about why this occurs and what an alkaline is and an acid and all that stuff and since James (my James) has often used alkaline and acid in cleaning and cooking, he explained to me that bicarbonate of soda was a really good alkaline. So, onto the internet I jumped because I thought this sounded like something which might work for reducing acidity in the body.

I disccovered a site which talked about Bicarbonote of Soda or Baking Soda (the bubbly stuff) and how it would help endometriosis and numerous sites claiming it would cure cancer. Hmmmmm?

Here is my understanding of it all and why bicarbonate of soda would be really beneficial for us.

Okay, so first off we need to understand that our bodies are mostly in an acidic state when we have disease. Certain foods produce what they call acid-forming ash in the body, you know the ones: meat, dairy, alcohol, sugar. Yip, the usual culprits! Well, then we add the wonderful array of toxins to the mix, you know the stuff which has DDT, Dioxin and Triclosan plus Sodium Laurel Sulphate and to top it off, we add some wonderful stress, just to make sure we have a completely acidic body!

Most people probably have an acid rich body.

The whole acid causing cancer/disease theory was first discovered by Dr Otto Warburg; he one a Nobel Prize for discovering how acidity causes cancer in the body. He basically discovered that cancerous cells are acidic and worked backwards from there. Essentially, cancer cells need a low oxygen level to survive.

Here is what happens. When we increase the alkalinity in the blood, the blood is able to carry more oxygen. When it carries more oxygen, it is able to dispel disease and acidity more easily.

Now, I know we don’t have cancer but the same rules apply. Acidity causes disease. I found it really interesting because a few blog posts ago I wrote about Candida. In there it also stated that Candida was a fungus that grew in dark, damp places and that the area needed oxygen! Interesting! Now, how many of us who have endometriosis also have some form of Candida or dampness in the body? Bacteria don’t like alkaline; they like acidity! All those bad bacteria we want to get rid of all relate to alkalinity. Think about it…

The bad bacteria that invades our digestion and makes this hard. The bad bacteria in our mouths, giving us gum disease. Endometriosis is also a disease of cells which are growing in dark, damp and warm spaces, with a lack of oxygen to flush them out…

Interesting?

Here is an article talking about Bicarb and cancer.

Here is another interesting thing. Drinking bicarbonate of soda is said to reduce our lactic acidity in the body. Now, lactic acid in high doses is what makes us sore — muscle sore and that stiff-like-an-old-woman feeling! I have had sore shoulders for days and since yesterday it is way down! They actually recommend bicarbonate of soda for athletes to prevent them getting too stiff.

Now, here is a video for you of a guy talking about that some more:

So, I figured there is nothing wrong with giving it a go! It tastes a little salty but I didn’t mind it that much and it is really cheap!

Making your own Bath Bombs!

Also, in case any of you are keen to make your own bath bombs… here is the recipe:

5-6 lavender sprigs (with flowers)
1 tbsp citrus oil
c acid powder—you can get this at the supermarket
3 tbsp bicarbonate of soda
10 drops lavender oil
1tsp vegetable oil (almond oil or olive oil)

Dry your lavender for 2 weeks. Just pick it and hang it upside down.
Alternatively, buy some lavender and dry it in the oven. Just put the oven on 180°C or 350°F until warm. TURN OFF. Then put lavender in for about 2 hours until dry.
Or just buy dried lavender.
Next, make sure your hands are super dry and everything else you are using.
Put all ingredients in a glass bowl and mix with metal spoon. (The type is important as chemical reactions happen if you use other stuff.)
Find a cool biscuit cutter and put it on top of a baking tray with baking paper.
Put everything in there.
Press in with the back of a spoon.
Leave to set overnight.
Store in tin foil to keep the moisture out.

What a fun thing to do on a silly weekend afternoon!

So, back to the acidic versus alkaline and bicarb idea. What do you think? Do you want to try it with me? Makes sense on so many levels! It sounds so simple!

Want more articles on it? Here you go:

http://www.naturalnews.com/032070_baking_soda_tumors.html

How much?

Only drink 1/4 teaspoon to a glass of previously boiled water, twice a day. You don’t want to overdo it. It is all about balance after all 🙂 Also, only drink it on an empty stomach.

Very important: Get the aluminium-free variety!

Also, fruits and vegetables are all alkaline on the body—go figure! You can check your PH level with Litmus paper—just put it in your mouth or test it on your urine.

  1. I’ve stumbled across this post by accident.
    Interesting reading!

I was searching about bicarb (bicarbonate of soda in the uk) and its effects on ovarian cysts.
It would appear that it can help with many things!

Does anyone know if you can get bicarb in TABLET form??

  2. I read Suzanne Somers book – Im Too Young For This! Awsome read and I strongly suggest it. I found a Dr. who put me on progesterone recently, so we’ll see how well I do with it. Another Dr. just told me that the progesterone is nothing more than a placebo and I should just get a hysterectomy. Too be honest, I am confused, but I’m going to trust my insticts and go with the progesterone for now. Another thing I started about three weeks ago was that I started taking Ionic Silver. I generally feel a lot better! I suggest we should all look into that as well:)
Melissa, I really need your input on the whole hysterectomy thing and anything else you want to add. Thanks.

    • I would definitely NOT go for a hysterectomy. It doesn’t solve anything and Endometriosis can easily grow back! I would recommend following an inflammatory diet and the rest of the REACH Technique© principles I share on my website.

      • I personally have a horrible case of endometriosis and last year went through surgery because I was literally doubled over with excruciating pain. (I did Not get a historectamy) my doctor then gave me a shot that was a $3,000 dollar estrogen reducer. It put me into a medically endured menopause. After that wore off my doc told me to hurry up and get pregnant before the endo grew back. I was unsuccessful at getting pregnant and my pains were coming back stronger every month which told me it was growing back. My husband introduced me to the bakingsoda molasses protocol and so I started it along with getting rid of ALL estrogen forming foods (sugar, red meat, dairy, grain, SOY -soy is TERRIBLE for your hormones- and I started eating much more greens. I’m actually following an alkaline diet. After one month of these changes I am happy to report that my endometriosis symptoms are almost nonexistent!!!!! I am soooooooo excited!!!! I definitely do NOT suggest getting a hysterectomy.
        Best of luck!!!!!!

  3. No…absolutely no correlation. I’ve taken 1tsp of baking soda every day since 2008 to treat recurrent kidney stones (prescribed by a urologist), and I still had stage IV endometriosis and fully invading bowel endometriosis. Please, do not mess with the ph of your urine because of this claim. The only effective way to remove endometriosis from the body is through excision surgery with a highly trained expert capable of identifying all forms of the disease.

  4. Hi Melissa

I swear by this, I think I mentioned this to you in another blog before I read this today.

I take alkalising salts every morning when I can afford them but when I cant, I make sure I take a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with a squeeze of lemon every morning on an empty stomach

Also I take it before before bed if I have been out and induldged, I find it neutralises the acidity in the alcohol / food and I wake up hangover free and refreshed.

My endo pain has become minimal, despite not always being able to fully follow the endo diet and I firmly believe it is down to this theory.

I also try and drink water with a slice of lemon every day throughout the day too so I am keeping my body alkalined, the difference in me has been amazing – everyone should know about this! this is a great post! xx

    • Hi Eleanor, I have also been searching for natural bicarbonate of soda, it seems impossible to find in South Africa! To ship the Bobs red mill from the USA it would cost over R700, 7 x more expensive than 4.5 lb bag I requested. Have you had any luck in finding a local supplier?

  5. Hey! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but after reading through some of the post I realized it’s nnew to me.
Anyhow, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll
be book-marking and checking back frequently!

  8. Starting with baking soda and maple syrup this morning. I have bad endo (frozen pelvis) and now have some fibroid cysts in my breasts. Wish me luck.

    • That’s fantastic that your on the bakingsoda maple syrup protocol. I am too!!! Might I suggest eating an estrogen free diet such as an alkaline diet also. I had a horrible case of endometriosis and with the combo of the diet and the bakingsoda mixture I’m keeping my endometriosis in check and my pains is almost nonexistent now!!!
      Best of luck!

  9. This is actually very interesting… when my mom got sick I tried looking for every possible natural treatment and I found videos of an Italian oncologist that would use sodium bicarbonate mixed with water during cancer surgeries finding that tumors would eventually shrink! 🙂
Too bad my mom was diagnosed in terminal phase, she was really discouraged to try any natural remedies…

  10. Hello Melissa,
Yes, Baking Soda works great. I have great results with this protocol on skin cancer,
, ovarian, colon and stomage cancer. Baking soda is unexpensive and easy to use.

  11. Sounds great….but are there any results??? I know this is only a few weeks old but has there been any success stories?

    • Hi Jason. Yeah it is hard to tell after such a short time. I think it is still a combination of things and this just adds to the mix 🙂

    • Hi Melissa. It’s been a year since your last response to me so what are the results now? After reading your article AND a bit more research, my wife tried regularly taking apple cider vinegar with Bicarbonate of Soda. She later spoke to a nutrional therapist who told her this combination would never work because if you think about it, they actually cancel each other out. Now she’s looking into taking Bicarb by itself – what do you think?

      • Hi Jason,
Unfortunately bicarb with water is such a small element to Endometriosis. There are many other factors to take into account. Though taking bicarb in water will help with acidity in the body, it doesn’t get to the root of the issue, which is a high toxic load on the body. The key is to flush out toxins in the body. Ask your nutritional therapist about doing a liver flush or a colonic flush to help clean out the body. Hope that helps 🙂 Thanks for the support.

  12. Baking soda is not the same as baking powder. Baking powders have aluminum. Rumfords baking powder is aluminum free and can be used in baking, but this is not the substance you are referring to as a remedy. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. That is the substance to be used to increase alkalinity…. it, as far as I know, has never contained aluminum. Baking powder is a mixture of ingredients sometimes containing sodium bicarbonate and various other ingredients including cream of tartar and sodium aluminum sulfate. I just wanted to clarify so somebody doesn’t start drinking baking powder instead of soda. I want to say I appreciate this informational lead as I am trying to research uterine fibroids causes and remedies for my 24 year old daughter who is suffering from a lot of pain. So thanks!

    • Thanks for clearing that up Christine. I think it depends on which country you live in as to what it is called. I know it is called Bicarbonate of Soda in New Zealand and South-Africa but it might be called different things in different countries – very confusing I know. To make sure, you have the right product… mix it with some Apple Cider Vinegar. If it fizzles you have the right product 🙂
Just as a suggestion for Fibroids… have a look into Oestrogen Dominance as there is a direct link with Fibroids. Hope that helps 🙂

  13. I was wondering tho ‘bout baking soda. i.e. if you continue to eat acid foods, will baking soda not help make your body alkaline & hence, cancel out the benefits? ‘cos realistically, not many of us can do 100% alkaline. One site said do 80% alkaline, 20% acid.
I also read somewhere else to drink it an hour before & after meals & supplements. Is that considered ’empty stomach’ then? I have to ask ‘cos I have a hard time knowing when I have an empty stomach. I know if you eat fruits, you have a empty stomach faster than if you eat, say, meat which stays & ferments longer.
Sorry if it seems I nitpick things. I like learning ALL the ins & outs things & I tend to ask A LOT of questions. LOL
    Wend

    • Hey Wend. No probs. It is good to ask questions – that’s how I learnt all this stuff 🙂 The body is unlikely to ever be over alkaline. Just to clarify, acid is bad for us and alkaline is good. Fruit and veg is alkaline and most other things are acid on the body. When we stress, we become acid, if we drink anything other than fruit juice and water, we become acid, most foods are acid and it is unlikely that we would ever get away from those acid rich foods – unless we go 100% raw food but as we have already discovered this isn’t ideal for us endo girls.
An hour before food should be fairly safe as an “empty stomach”. I generally find waiting at least 3hrs is a safe bet, after food. Fruit takes 20minutes to pass through the stomach to the intestines but yes meats etc take much longer. The only danger I can see with taking Bicarb every single day is that the stomach juices would become less acid, which is not really ideal. I would just add a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar to the bicarb – expect it to bubble up – with water and drink that. That cancels it out. Check out this awesome website all about the combination of apple cider vinegar and bicarb. http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/acv_baking_soda_cures.html
You can also use this combination as a shampoo and conditioner 🙂

  14. This is great info! In the video that guy does 1t BS (baking soda) in a glass of (looks like room temp) water. You put ¼ t 2x/day & using boiled water. Why a difference?
My dad always did BS for heartburn & it honestly works great. For me, it makes me sick to gulp it down (like the guy did) so I sip it instead. Either way, it helps when I have heartburn from endo. I had read you should mix BS w/ lemon juice tho ‘cos it can ‘explode’ in your stomach. Can’t remember where I read that, but it was years ago. Another site says to be sure it is fully dissolved to prevent that ‘explode’ feeling.
You wrote fruits & vegs are alkaline on the body but I’m confused. In another article, I had posted ‘bout me not being able to eat i.e. oranges (you can’t either) or grapefruit but can have lemon juice. I think you said it was ‘cos lemon juice is alkaline. So are fruits & vegs acid or alkaline? I’ve been researching this for a few years now but I honestly am confused w/ the whole thing. I DO believe cancer, diseases, cannot survive in an alkaline body. Then another says eat fruits & veggies. But it’s hard when some of those HURT us (you touched on this in yet another article- boy are you good! LOL).
This guy said what he buys is better than the ‘yellow box’ which I’m assuming is Arm & Hammer. I had searched if A&H is aluminum free & others have asked that & they ARE aluminum free.
Here’s that link (btw, earthclinic is a GREAT site for home remedies & what people have tried)
    http://earthclinic.com/Remedies/baking_soda.html

    • Hey Wend. I suggested using preboiled water – it filters the water slightly which will make it purer to drink. If you have a filter, then you can just drink the water straight out of the tap 🙂 If you mix it with lemon juice or Apple Cider Vinegar, it will fizzle but you can drink that too 🙂 There is a whole site of endo girls who use the combination and say they have had great results.

It is a little confusing. Fruits and veg are alkalising on the body. Once they get into our bodies, they change due to enzymes and other chemicals reactions that occur with our stomach acid etc. Oranges and lemons are acid outside of the body but once they enter the body, they become alkalising. They call it an alkaline ash. I still can’t eat Oranges – so not sure why that is 🙂

The other article was more about eating 100% raw food, which I concluded was perhaps too cold for our bodies, which generally suffer from a cold/damp problem. Fruit and veg can never be bad for our health. We just have to eat 51% raw and the rest cooked/ lightly boiled or in soups.

Sounds like you found a great brand!
